Our results suggest that most uninsured households will probably take on debt to pay for health care at some point in their lives. A substantial minority of those households will also sell productive assets such as land. SKY health insurance cuts the rates of these events by about a third.
There was mixed evidence of adverse selection on observable baseline characteristics such as past health care utilization and initial health levels of household members.
By rigorously documenting the impacts of the SKY program—both what works and what does not—we can provide information to health ministries, donors and policymakers around the globe.
