Presentation: Why are There so Many Poor People in Africa and South Asia?

For the first time in 20 years, Africa's growth is equal to that of developing countries (aside from China and India). The notable inquiry though is although Africa has been experiencing momentous growth, why has there not been notable progress on improving poverty and social dynamics?

This presentation is based on AMA Innovation Lab projects for the Poverty Traps Conference. This conference is a gathering point for USAID and other development assistant agencies to connect the poor to economic growth.

This presentation was presented by Shanta Devarajan from The World Bank on February 26, 2009 at Washington, DC.
