Presentation: Promoting Adoption of Improved Production Technologies among Smallholders in Ghana via Coupled Credit and Index Insurance Contracts

In Ghana, a three-year program of research, outreach, and education was designed to promote use of index insurance to expand access to credit and increased adoption of improved production practices among Ghanaian farmers. As a result, research will be done through a randomized control trial to test whether index insurance-contingent credit can reduce impacts of widespread agricultural loan defaults in adverse systemic events, allow lenders to expand access to credit to smallholders and reduce interest rates.

This presentation is based on the AMA Innovation Lab projects for the BASIS AMA CRSP/I4 Index Insurance Innovation Initiative Technical Committee Meeting. This event was a gathering of researchers and stakeholders involved with the Index Insurance Innovation Initiative (I4) at UC Davis.

This presentation took place at George Washington University, United States on November 6, 2014.
