Alexandros (or Alexander) Sarris is a professor of economics at the University of Athens, Greece. Between 2003 and 2010 he was director of the Trade and Markets Division of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). He has also held a faculty appointment at the University of California, Berkeley.
Sarris has authored or co-authored more than 15 books and monographs, and more than 70 journal and book articles on various issues of international trade and development and has served in the editorial boards of several academic journals. He has advised extensively many UN organizations, the World Bank, the European Commission and other national and international agencies. He has conducted field research and consulted on public policy in over 20 countries. Sarris holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachussetts Institute of Technology.
