A World Bank feature news story recently highlighted the the fact that nearly half of the world’s farmers are unable to utilize banks. This statistic is worrying given the evidence linking financial inclusion to poverty alleviation and since over 70 percent of the world’s poor live in rural areas where agriculture is the predominant occupation.
