On August 15, 2017, Agrilinks featured an article about managing agricultural risk, including an AMA Innovation Lab project that involves building a phone-based digital crop trading platform in Uganda. The project, led by Craig McIntosh at UC San Diego, is using this highly scalable technology to develop a suite of tools that measure both the shallowness in African food markets and offer solutions to deepen markets. The three prongs of the study simultaneously change intermediaries, information and the contracting options available in food markets for both farmers and buyers.
