Live Video Science Seminar: Index-based Insurance for Agriculture

On 19 September, the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) organized an online Science Seminar, where Dr. Michael Carter, from University of California Davis, was live streamed during a presentation on the limitations and promise of risk transfer innovations in developing countries.

Michael Carter, a UC Davis professor of agricultural and resource economics and director of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Assets and Market Access presented case studies from East Africa, including index-based livestock insurance in Kenya, and interlinking credit and insurance in Ethiopia. He also discussed the future research agenda for index insurance. After the presentation the audience was given an opportunity to ask questions.
